The circuit of the southern parks allows you to discover places less frequented than the most famous circuit of the north, to enjoy in peace their spectacular beauty, where nature dominates everything.
Unlike northern parks that offer year-round spectacle, southern parks offer the best between July and October for a higher concentration of animals along river banks. Given the long distances and rough roads, some parks are more easily accessible by air.
Entry to the National Parks in Tanzania is allowed to licensed off-road vehicles of local tour operators with a valid license. The paths of the safaris are strictly bound to the trails. The strict regulation of parks has the laudable aim of safeguarding the inestimable natural heritage and supporting the local economy. The “DIY tourism” presents many unknowns and therefore becomes difficult to practice. With us, local tour operator with Italian participation, you can realize your dream of a tailor-made safari! The Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a park to explore on foot, called the ‘African Galapagos’ for its endemic species.
The name Udzungwa comes from the word Wadzungwa in the Kihehe language, which means “people living on the sides of the mountain”.
Trails of a few hours lead to spectacular waterfalls. For the more daring, it is possible to organize trekking of several days.
The forests of the Udzungwa Mountains host 9 different species of primates, including the red colobus of Iringa, easy to spot at the entrance of the park, the Sanje river’s cercocebo and the Udzungwa galagon, endemic species not found elsewhere. Endemic birds, butterflies and chameleons also gratify visitors as they enter the park. For birdwatching enthusiasts, don’t miss the white-winged Apalis, the Udzungwa Forest Partridge and the Dapple-throat.
